Herzlich willkommen in einer fast schon vergessenen Zeit, als Krimi-Fans sich noch nicht so komplizierte Fragen stellen mussten wie : "Was hat diesen Menschen zum Psychopathen gemacht, der auf seinen unzähligen Mordopfern seltsame religiöse Zeichen einritzt?" oder "Wird die Auflösung des Falls Kommissar Schonoftgesehen dabei helfen, das gestörte Verhältnis zu seinem Vater gerade zu rücken?" Nein, wir schreiben das Jahr 1977, in dem anscheinend die einzige Krimi-Frage, die die Menschheit bewegt, lautet: "Wer war´s?"
Nachdem die Francis-Durbridge-TV-Mehrteiler in den 60ern die ganze Nation vor der Mattscheibe festgenagelt hatten und die Ausstrahlung des bis dato letzten ("Das Messer") bereits sechs Jahre zurück lag, dachten sich 1977 anscheinend clevere Köpfe beim SWR, noch mal einen Durbridge-´Straßenfeger´ abzudrehen, bevor jemand auf die Idee kommen sollte, RTL und Sat 1 zu erfinden. Heraus kam der dreistündige Zweiteiler "Die Kette", vom abgezockten Routinier Rolf von Sydow gedreht mit einer Heerschar bekannter TV-Schauspieler. Zwei Drittel der Deutschen sahen "Die Kette", und wer damals zum unbeteiligten Drittel gehörte oder einfach noch nicht existierte, kann Versäumtes nun mit der DVD nachholen, die die Aviator-Entertainment GmbH jetzt dankenswerterweise auf den Markt geworfen hat.
Wer denkt, ein 30 Jahre alter deutscher Krimi wirkt heute bestimmt ziemlich altmodisch, der muss seine mathematischen Fähigkeiten noch weiter bemühen, denn "Die Kette" lief mit seiner betulich-weltfremden Coolness schon 1977 dem Zeitgeist um einige Jahre hinterher. Um so besser, denn die famos lustlos wirkende, sensationell hölzerne Inszenierung dieses Hörspiels mit Bildern macht heutzutage wieder richtig Spaß. Das heißt aber nicht, dass es in "Die Kette" keine Action gibt: Es gibt Prügelszenen, in denen die Leute bewusstlos umfallen, nachdem der Gegner deutlich erkennbar nur auf die Luft eingeschlagen hat, und spätestens, wenn Uschi Glas ihre Entführung verhindert, indem sie dem mit allen schmutzigen Wassern gewaschenen Gangster ein Bein stellt, hört man sich vor dem Bildschirm leise "Kultfilm!" flüstern.
Ganz in Ernst: Wer auch nur ein bisschen Sinn für die grotesken 70er Jahre hat, muss diesen Film einfach mögen. Allein schon die Handlung könnte abstruser kaum sein. Los geht´s mit dem Tod des Vaters von Scotland-Yard Inspektor Harry Dawson (Harald Leipnitz). Papa Dawson (Wolfgang Lukschy) wird von einem fliegenden Golfball erschlagen. Als mordende Golf-Niete gibt sich der smarte Peter Newton (Klaus Wildbolz) zu erkennen, der aber bald ebenfalls gewaltsam ins Gras beißen muss, woraufhin der sowieso schon vom Dienst suspendierte Harry Dawson unter Mordverdacht gerät. Aber Harry hat ja Zeit zum Ermitteln und löst so einige Rätsel über Ketten, Hundehalsbänder, verschwundene Pudel etc. bis ihm klar wird, dass hinter der ganzen Intrige eine mysteriöse Person steckt, die niemand je zu Gesicht bekommen zu haben scheint, die aber dennoch einen großen Callgirlring betreibt. Auf so eine Story muss man erstmal kommen...
Strategisch gesehen muss so ein Film zum Funktionieren natürlich viele Wendungen und knifflige Rätsel beinhalten - und mit einer ganzen Armee an Verdächtigen aufwarten. Das alles klappt in "Die Kette" ganz prima. Manche absurden Rätsel werden sogar auf überraschend schlüssige Weise gelöst, andere eher vergessen oder zumindest großzügig ignoriert. Und was die lange Liste der Verdächtigen betrifft, gingen die Macher sogar so weit, Charaktere zu schaffen, deren Sinn sich letzten Endes völlig auf das Verdächtigsein beschränkt. Vermutlich wusste kaum einer der Schauspieler beim Dreh, worum es in dem Film eigentlich geht und was er selbst darin zu suchen hat. Um so erstaunlicher ihre zum Teil wirklich großartigen Leistungen. Wolfgang Kieling ist als schmierig-perverser Tierhändler mindestens ebenso grandios wie Rosemarie Fendel als hypernervöse Haushälterin, Karl-Heinz Vosgerau als Rollstuhlfahrer, der auch hervorragend gehen kann, oder Jan Niklas als verdächtig unverdächtiger Mitarbeiter von Papa Dawson. Ach ja, und dann ist da noch Uschi Glas als - wie immer - Uschi Glas. Und viele, viele mehr - von Beatrice Richter bis Michael Hinz.
Nach gut drei Stunden ohne lästig-langweilige Subplots, psychologische Duseleien und andere Schnörkel erfährt der Zuschauer dann auch, wer der wirkliche Bösewicht ist, das Mastermind hinter all dem abstrusen Chaos. Und bumm - aus ist der Film. Wer so langweilige Fragen hat wie: "Ehrlich?", "Warum der?" oder "Macht das Sinn?", kann diese entweder seinem Psychiater stellen oder sich den Film noch einmal ansehen - ohne dabei irgendwie schlauer zu werden. Ist aber egal, hat Spaß gemacht!
Ton und Bild der DVD sind völlig okay, aber wer filmisches Zusatzmaterial sucht, guckt in die Röhre - wir sind hier schließlich nicht in Hollywood. Während das Auge also verhungert, gibt´s jedoch noch ein Bonbon für die Ohren: den kompletten Soundtrack von Dieter Reith. Ein wahnwitziger Mix aus kernigem Blaxploitation-Funk, Easy Listening und Space Age-Pop. Klassiker!!! Gibt´s den auch auf Vinyl?
| Der Artikel strotzt meiner Meinung nach von Gehässigkeiten gegen die 70iger Jahre mit allem drum u. dran, alles wird ins lächerliche gezogen, naja. Die Erstausstrahlung war übrigens Jan./Febr. 1975, nicht 1977. bitte jeweils genauer recherchieren. ein Durbridge-Fan.

| Ich finde die Rezension insgesamt treffend und keineswegs gehässig gegen die 70er. Die Verfilmung der "Kette" wirkte wirklich arg gekünstelt und hatte einfach nichts mehr mit der Qualität eines "Halstuches" gemein. Die Erstaustrahlung war übrigens wirklich 1977 und nicht 1975. Ich selbst habe damals beide Teile gesehen, die genauen Termine waren: Teil 1: Sonntag, 18.12.1977 Teil 2: Dienstag, 20.12.1977
